  • What is a Diamond Wire Saw good for?

    Post Image

A diamondwiresaw is a wire saw which contains diamond dust in it and useful for cutting through materials. They come in different lengths and diameters. Due to the diamond dust present in it, it can cut through any material which is softer than diamond. The wire can also be called a blade and is run by electricity or by manual labor, in a chain of loops or in to and fro movements.
They are a good option for you in the following cases:

diamond-wire1. Cutting through Hard Material: This is the main reason why you should be opting to use a Diamond wire saw. As it can cut through any material which is softer than diamond you can use it for industrial purposes.

    2. Saves Money: As compared to your usage of solid blades, a diamond wire saw will produce way less waste from the material you cut through saving a lot of the expensive material you are using and your money as well.

    3. Efficient Cutting Technique: If you are using a diamond wire saw, do you know that it has a different and efficient cutting technique, unlike the other wire saws? It contains some fluid or water for the purpose of lubricating to chill the cut you’ve made and remove the rubble produced.

    4. A Clean Dry Cut is Produced: After you have finished cutting through your expensive material you will find a clean, regular and dry cut, unlike a normal wire saw.

    5. Lightweight: Diamond wire saws are not heavy and do not add too much weight to your carried objects. Thus, it is a very good portable saw, which can be carried to different places of work in case your workplace keeps on shifting from one location to another.

    6. Survival Gear: Diamond chainsaws can also act as good survival gear due to its durability and its cutting properties. When talking about survival, it means that you are trapped in a forest (say) where a diamond wire saw can act as an effective survival gear. As the manual ones don’t carry much weight, you can easily pack it in your kit, before going for any adventure.

    • Thick branches of trees
    • PVC pipes
    • Light metals
    • Sections off through leather, intense canvas or nylon straps
    • Strong ropes

In an industrial setting, diamond wire saws are used to cut pieces that can’t be affected by heat. The saw produces so little heat that even fragile materials won’t be destroyed. For more on industrial cutting you can read our articles on laser cutting.

  • A safe method to use a Laser Cutter (Part Two)

    Post Image

After last weeks intro to laser cutting, here are the next steps you should take in order to get the most out of your experience:

laser-856991_640Step 6: Setting Up the Frequency
Except the control on power and speed, you also get to set up the frequency of the laser, which means you can specify how many laser beams or pulses will be applied to the material while cutting.

Step 7: Choosing the right cutting technique
There are two different kinds of cutting technique for you to choose from depending on the type of work you want to do. You get,

    • Rasting- You can use this method if you want to engrave any diagram or design on any material and it requires less power
    • Vector- This method will be useful for you if you want to cut out things from the materials and it will require more power.

Step 8: Drawing the Required Designs in the Software
Here, you need to draw what you want to cut or crave out of the material. You’ll need to use CorelDraw X4 for this. In the drawing screen you should make sure that the lines you draw are thick enough.

Step 9: Set the Materials inside the Machine
You should then place the material on which you want to print in the machine properly in the right orientation below the laser terminals. Adjust the machine bed accordingly and you’re good to go.

Step 10: Focusing, Testing and Printing
After you are done with the set-ups inside the machine, focus the laser terminal on at the starting point. You should then do a test print to see whether it’s working the way you want, if not, make further adjustments to your drawing or set-up. After you are done with the testing, start printing whatever you need. This should get the job done for you.

Here’s what laser cutting looks like in action:

Lots of success on your projects – next week we’ll look into diamond wire saws!

  • A safe method to use a Laser Cutter (Part One)

    Post Image

light-579290_640In modern days, a laser cutter is a very important machine you can find in a shop. It uses the application of strong lasers instead of cutting blade to cut out objects from a material. For example, you can cut out or engrave alphabets from or into a thick piece of plastic or wood.
You can learn the method to use a Laser Cutter from the steps below:

Step 1: You Need To Buy a Laser Cutting Machine
Several brands in the market manufacture and sell these machines from where you can buy it. But if you are planning to buy one, you might want to keep the budget in mind coz they don’t come cheap. If not, contact someone, who already have one, and you can loan it for a few tasks or you can just pay an external company to do the work for you.

Step 2: Gather Materials Which You Want To Cut
After you have acquired the machine, the next step to follow will be to gather materials which you want to cut, such as brass plates, wood, glass or polycarbonate plastic plates.

    Step 3: Acquiring the Software
To make your Laser cutter work, you need to program the machine with your computer and set up the designs it’ll make. For this, you’d need the software called CorelDraw X4 (or above).

    laser-24095_640Step 4: Warnings
Materials like plastic and wood are highly flammable as a result you need to be careful and keep the machine lid close while the machine works. Items like PVCs produce chlorine which can be corrosive. When cutting reflective things, don’t keep the reflective side towards the laser cut head, or it may damage your machine.

Step 5: Setting Up the Power and Speed of the Machine
This will require you to set up the power level at which the laser will operate and the speed at which it will work.
